How Lucky Am I
This post is in response to a question I was asked a few days ago.
Another sunny day, About 25 degrees thats around 78f. So what have I done all day?
I`ve been sitting in the garden with an ice cold beer (ok ….a couple of beers) and my laptop finishing the first draught of my new ebook.
I`ve been trying to cut down on the length of it but I can`t seem to get it any shorter without removing some of the
crucial content.
So it looks like it will have to stay that way, they do say “content is king” and oh boy does my ebook have a
lot of content, so maybe I`ll charge a little more for it.
This sunny weather means I get to work while I top up my tan before I go on holiday.Today two of my grandchildren
came over today and they decided to kick a ball around and within 2 minutes the ball was kicked into a new neighbours garden.
I went to ask if I could retrieve the ball and permission was duly granted so I walked around to get the ball followed by
my neighbour we exchanged the usual chit chat for a couple of minutes names etc and the weather of course then she commented on how nice it must be to work
from home and have time for family to visit, I agreed with her saying that this weather made it even more pleasurable.
I went back and gave the kids the ball and had a kick about, then sat back at the laptop and did a little more work.
Work!! I hear you say, sitting in the sun with a drink tapping away with a laptop. That isn`t work.
But that`s just the way I work now. It hasn`t always been that way, I have had a lot of different jobs, I joined the Royal Marines when I left school,
factory work, seasonal work, driving jobs, security work, you name it I`ve probably done it, I was even a gravedigger for a while……
yes you read it right a gravedigger and I loved it (no complaints from the customers on that job). I`ve worked double shifts more times than I care to mention
more than once I worked 36 hours straight through then drove over 300 miles home.
I do some work now but it`s not a job as such, it`s voluntary work with children in fostercare, sometimes with people with learning difficulties
and sometimes the elderly who may need a bit of help with something. I do this as a way of giving something to the community.
I started writing this a few hours ago while the sun was still shining, I just came back to finish it as the sun is going down and I sit here looking
over green fields and the river and thinking how lucky I am …. I have a beautiful wife, 3 great kids, 3 gorgeous grandkids and I work as and when i want to.
The question was……… how lucky am I to be able to work from home …….
The answer is …………..Very Lucky
But I NEVER EVER take it for granted.

Brilliant, Colin, and good for you for doing voluntary work to give something back. I really admire you.
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Hi Colin
It’s nice to hear that you appreciate the position you are in, whereby you are now able to work from home – great stuff.
I like your blog – it has a nice mixture of topics.
Best wishes for the future – Keith
